Stepping up to the defiant show of Love and Courage

In the last week, we have yet again heard news of more self-immolation’s inside Tibet, Tenzin Wangmo (20yrs old) and Norbu Dramdul (19yrs old). It is easy to become depressed by all the sad news, however, Jamyang Norbu la’s right. Tibetans inside are calling us to action and we must not let them down.

Remember, these are not suicide attempts, do not be disheartened. Thich Nhat Hanh, the Vietnamese buddhist scholar, monk and activist wrote “The Vietnamese monk, by burning himself, says with all his strength and determination that he can endure the greatest of sufferings to protect his people. What he really aims at is the expression of his will and determination, not death. To express will by burning oneself, therefore, is not to commit an act of destruction but to perform an act of construction – i.e., to suffer and to die for the sake of one’s people.” in 1965 during the Vietnam War. Sacrificing yourself for others is the ultimate show of courage and, above all else, love.

Vietnam

This Friday, I’m planning to take part in Chalk Tibet, it is simple, easy and does not need more then 2 people. This will be my way to let the Tibetans inside know that I hear them and I will take action.

I hope you all will take action in your own way. Tibetans inside have made themselves heard, it is time we step up.

Bhod-Gyalo!
